College’s national role
PA Tauranga The Bay of Plenty Community College might play an important role in training people for the developing horticultural industry, said the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, when he officially opened the college. Developing kiwifruit areas scattered throughout New Zealand lacked the expertise of the Bay of Plenty. Those areas would rely heavily on people trained by the college.
“The college therefore may have a role which has national as well as local significance. It already has established its position in the horticultural training field,” Mr Wellington said. The college, which began functioning as a community college earlier this year, was providing horticultural management courses that were being developed as national qualifications, he said.
