Ranfurly Shield
Sir,—Draped over your building’s editorial balcony was a banner proclaiming your fervid support for the Canterbury rugby team, and announcing a score of Canterbury 26, Counties 10. The banner obscured your latin motto which, on free translation, says that nothing is uttered which is not honest. You possibly might well be correct but, there appears to be a slight conflict between the bariner and the motto which you have had for more than 100 years. — Yours, etc.,
I. J. D. HALL. September 24, 1982.
[There is no evidence that our balcony is an "editorial balcony.” There is no evidence that the prediction of the score was anything but an honest prediction. There is evidence that the correspondent’s Tetter was written on September 24 before the score was known.Editor.]
