'Handiscope' plans first promotion
Christchurch day-care centres for the physically handicapped will hold open days next week to advertise their existence.
It is the first big promotional campaign for the voluntary organisation, “Handiscope,” which was started eight years ago by the then Mayoress of Christchurch, Mrs Alexia ingThe organisation now has 13 centres in city halls where physically handicapped people meet one day each week from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn crafts, relax, and meet' others with similar disabilities. Other centres have been established in Greymouth, Ashburton, and Nelson.
An executive member, Mrs B. Davies, said that members. mostly aged between 20 and 60. were usually referred to Handiscope by therapists and hospitals. “But we want the others to know that we are there,” she said. There were probably many handicapped people
