Charles Beaufort will be top Wingatui prospect

Charles Beaufort, a contemporary and stablemate of the John Grigg Stakes winner Clansman, should be one of Riccarton’s brightest hopes for the first day of the Otago spring meeting on Saturday.

His mission this week will be the Auckland Handicap, in which he will be ridden by the Wingatui horseman. Ali Robinson. Charles Beaufort finished sixth in the John Grigg Stakes after being slowest away. He looks as if he has thrived in the meantime, and went about his work attractively while running 800 m on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday. The Riccarton team at Wingatui will have several reinforcements for- the second day of the meeting. One of them. Acadia, will race there in blinkers, and the experiment could be rewarding. She sprinted 800 m

The work on the plough was notable mainly for strong solo runs by Firefly and Another Storv over 1400 m. Firefly, in the hands of the jumps rider Barry Polling, continued her preparation for the Geraldine Cup by recording 1:30.8. and 37.6 for
