The Arbuckle's name stands for highly competitive retailing in the field of parkas and ski jackets, continental blankets and duvets, and a complete range of Manchester items.
A variety of other lines are offered from time to time as special stock at special prices on a limited quantity, once-only basis. Bigger and brighter than ever, the new Arbuckle's store at 154 Armagh Street replaces the Colombo Street store that closed a week ago. but the Cashfields store remains to offer the firm's service to shoppers south of Cathedral Square. The new premises have more than double the floor area of the former Colombo Street store, and to celebrate the move there are “tremendous” opening specials being offered at the new shop, according to the firm’s owner and managing director, Mr John Arbuckle.
With so much more space. Arbuckle's is able to offer, what John claims is the largest range of ski jackets
in Christchurch, with prices ranging from $9.95 to $l3O — most of the jackets being actually manufactured by the firm.
The Arbuckle's Cranford Street factory also makes jackets in club colours at wholesale prices for sporting organisations. New ranges in the new shop include a comprehensive selection of bedspreads, a full range of Onehunga “Princess" pure wool blankets. and the Fairydown selection of feather, wool and dacron-filled duvet inners. Arbuckle's own Golden Weave brand of continental blankets includes queen and king sizes, both tuck-in and with a valance attached, and there is a made-to-measure service as well.
There is a huge range of sheets, plain and patterned, straight or fitted, with Golden Weave, Artex, Christy, Lady Michelle, Raysko, Actil and other brand names.
There is also an impressive selection of duvet covers, pillowslips, towels
and tablecloths, and a good supply of teatowels, facecloths, guest-towels and bathmats. The other major stock selection is in padded jackets and parkas of apparently every size and style for men. women and children — bomber, baseball, ski and fashion jackets, some revers-
ible and some with zip-out sleeves. There is also a small selection of good quality, good value, ladies’ raincoats, of shirred dress lengths, and of Indian wrap-around skirt lengths. Promotional specials to celebrate the opening include sleeping bags and roller skates at sale price.
Arbuckle's is a Christ-church-based firm which began nine years ago as a "one man band," and which now manufactures the bulk of the merchandise sold through the six shops in the Canterburv area. Growth has resulted in a substantial buying power which enables "the firm to buy good quality stock at
competitive prices, direct from importers and factories. This advantage is passed directly to the buying public. Good quality and value is matched by good service. All the goods carried in all Arbuckle’s shops are guaranteed: faulty stock is repaired, replaced or refunded.
