One-price milk favoured
PA Dunedin The South Island Local Bodies’ Association has called on the Government to rationalise the retail price of milk throughout New Zealand once the price freeze is lifted.
An Akaroa County remit passed by the association's conference at Oamaru said that an increase of 1c a bottle would provide sufficient funds to enable a single national price.
More than 60 commodities are freight-equalised in New Zealand, the conference
heard. “There is a tradition in New Zealand that while the best in life is free, the basics in life are the same price throughout the country,” a note on the remit said.
