Behaviour condemned

The public was being steadily conditioned to degraded moral behaviour, 439 people at a two-day convention of Jehovahs Witnesses were told yesterday.

Delegates from the Kaiapoi. West Christchurch, and South-East Christchurch congregations listened to the district overseer for NewZealand. Mr W. P. Harp.

Twenty years ago most Christians reacted with shock and disgust to such suggestions as trial marriages and premarital sex. but now adultery, de facto relationships. and even homosexual marriages were being regarded as commonplace, he said.

Of the 22,981 registered marriages in 1980 there were 6493' divorces — twice the rate 10 years previously — and 22 per cent of all births were illegitimate, Mr Harp said.
