Funding worry
PA Wellington Youth workers are concerned about the lack of continuing funding for . their programmes. . Delegates at a national youth workers' seminar at Upper Hutt yesterday spoke of a lack of co-ordination between Government departments for financing programmes. "Much of the funding is oply short-term, which hinders progress. Rationalisation of funding is needed so that the money is going on a more long-term basis to areas in need," said a National Youth Council executive officer, Mr ’Malcolm Menzies.
Inflation was eroding the value ,of existing grants, he said.
“Youth workers are also concerned that short-term funding makes their jobs insecure. If the money runs out in six months then they are looking for another job," he said.
