Hasting mother saves baby
PA Hastings (Mrs Sariah Paranihi defied her family, leapt into a blazing bedroom . and snatched her two-month-old baby to safety on Friday—moments before the roof collapsed. ‘A small child, grandson of Hastings City councillor Mr Robert Timu. died in the fire, which occurred about midday at Mr Timu’s home in Wavell Street. Timu. was badly burnt and admitted to Hastings Hospital. where her .condition has been described as satisfactory. Mrs Paranihi’s baby. Terena. was also in a satisfactory condition in hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation. Mrs Paranihi is Mr Timu’s daughter. After the fire he praised her courage. "She saved two lives, mine and the baby's." Mr Timu said.
