Miramar beats Manurewa
PA Wellington National Mutual Miramar beat Manurewa. 2-0. in a typical end-of-season Rothmans soccer league match at Paekakariki on Saturday. The match was played at the Queen Elizabeth Park venue and it. like the standard of play, did little justice to what is supposed to be the country's premier soccer league. The referee. Mr Gary Fleet, was reluctant to start the game because the pitch was not marked properly. The goals were rickety and the grass 100 long.
and in this atmosphere the standard of play deteriorated. Arthur Brown put Miramar ahead after 40 minutes alter a terrible Manurewa defensive error and 27 minutes into the second half Costa Leonidas made it 2-0 when he latched on to another loose ball. On both occasions the Manurewa goalkeeper. Frank van Hattum. was left totally without cover and the Manurewa side will return home disappointed it could not make more of the vastly superior possession it achieved.'
