Wellington beats Colts
As they did the previous, week against Otago Colts, the Canterbury Colts rugby team failed with a late run against Wellington Colts at Athletic Park on Saturday.
Wellington, which had the wind behind it in the first spell, led 13-0 at the interval, but Canterbury fought back to he level at 13-13 with five minutes remaining.
However, a questionable try
which was converted, just before the finish gave Wellington a 1913 victory. The referee. Mr Humphrey Rainey, seemed to be in two minds whether to award the trv.
’His decision rested on whether there had been a knock-on and whether the ball had been touched down. He gave Wellington the benefit of the doubt on both counts.
It was not a particularly good
game. Both sides had trouble with the wind, .and Canterbury was always struggling for possession.
Rob Moffat was the pick of the Canterbury forward, while in the back. Alan Lindsay. Cohn Williamson and Dean Kilworth showed up. Lindsay and Moffat scored Canterbury's tries: Williamson kicking a conversion and a penalty goal. ■
