N.Z. Trotting Cup stake to remain at $l000,000
The stake for the New Zealand Trotting Cup, to be run at Addington Raceway on Tuesday, November 9, will remain at $lOO,OOO. The Metropolitan Trotting Club has retained the stakes for most of the feature races on the two days and two evenings of the Cup carnival at the same level as last year, but, because of sp'onsorship, stakes for ordinary handicap events have been increased, said the president, Mr Murray Taylor.
Some of the feature races, notably the Worthy Queen Handicap on the first day, and the Trotting Free-For-All on the second day, have been increased and will now be worth 1 $6500 and $lO,OOO respectively. The handicap race has been increased by $l5OO and the free-for-all by $2500. The stake for the C 8 Pacing Free-For-All on the first day will be worth $7OOO (up $500) and it will be a mobile start event, as will the 2000 m
race for C 4 pacers. The Olliver Stakes on the first evening will now be worth $6500 (up $500), while the Premier Stakes will carry a stake of $5OOO (up $1000). The Premier Stakes will now be for four-year-olds on C2 and faster, instead of catering for Cl and faster as in the past. “The increases for normal schedule races will apply only for the Cup meeting,’’ said Mr Taylor. “The committee will review
the situation at the end of the carnival.”
