Rifle threat alleged
Members of the armed offenders squad surrounded a house in King Street, Sydenham, last evening after an occupant allegedly threatened a taxi-driver with an air rifle. A man, aged 70, was arrested and will appear in the District Court this morning charged with presenting a firearm. The police said the incident occurred when the taxidriver drove a fare to a
house in King Street about 7 p.m. A man came out of the house and allegedly threatened the driver with a firearm. The driver sped away and called the police, who cordoned the house and called for the armed offenders squad. The alleged offender gave himself up about 9 p.m. The police confiscated two air rifles.
