Public Works Department - Niue Island APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from suitably qualified Electricians to organise and supervise the service section which attends to routine servicing and consumer complaints. This section of the trical Division is responsible for all line, underground, building and installation maintenance, street lighting, all-development work and extensions of existing installations. It is also involved in the .electrical supply and control aspect of the powerhouse, and all aspects of reticulated supply. Salarv and Allowances: A salary in the range of $18,897 to $20,288 p.a. is offered, depending on qualifications and experience. A location allowance of $10,398 p.a. (married) or $6655 p.a. (single) and a child allowance for each dependent child of $865 p.a. are also paid. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must be N.Z.-Registered electricians or hold equivalent qualifications to enable registration, and have a proven ability in staff control and work organisation. Duties: The Overseer is responsible to the Electrical Superintendent for the provision of an effective and efficient service to consumers and to ensure that all new development is designed and executed in a workman-like manner. Duties include the training of team leaders in management skills and the training of staff in trade skills. Vacancy No. NU 82/07 Training Instructor/Electrical Inspector. Public Works Department Niue Island APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from registered electricians or technicians who hold an Advanced Trade Certificate. Salary and Allowances: A salary and maximum of $18,897 p.a. is offered, depending on qualifications and experience. A location allowance of $10,3989 p.a. (married) or $6655 p.a. (single) and a child allowance for each dependent child of $865 p.a. are also paid. Qualifications and Experience: Registered electrician and Advanced Trade Certrificate (Electrical) required. Experience in practical and theoretical instruction of apprentices, electrical inspection and electronics would be an advantage. Duties: The Inspector is responsible to the Overseer (General) for issuing permits for wiring installation, inspection of wiring installation, training and examination of apprentices, investigation of consumer complaints and community education. General: Term — The term of service is 3 years for a married appointee and 2 years for a single person. Return economy class airfares and sea freight on household effects are paid subject to satisfactory completion of contract and an estab-lishment/re-establishment grant is paid on arrival in Niue and return to place of recruitment. Leave — Local leave is earned at the rate of 10 or 15 days (depending on eligible service) per year, but is reduced if mid-term furlough is taken (3 year term only). End of term furlough is earned at the rate of two and a half days for each complete month of sevice. Housing — Good quality furnished government accommodation is supplied at 10 per cent or 8 per cent of employee’s salary and allowances up to a maximum of $92,000 per fortnight. Working Conditions — Because of the isolation of Niue and the wide scope of the Public Works Department, the appointee may be called upon to carry out work not associated with his trade and should be versatile and adaptable.
