Ribbonwood Prince impresses

Ribbonwood Prince entered calculations for the H. E. Goggin Stakes at Addington Raceway on Saturday when he was successful at the Motukarara trials yesterday. Ribbonwood Prince started from 20m and recorded 3min 11.5 s for the 2400 m. the last 800 m in Imin 0.95. and the final 400 m in 30.35.

Vienna Charm, which recorded 3min 10s after starting from 40m, did well to run the winner to a short length. She was making ground steadily at the end without being pushed. She is not engaged on the first night of the New Brighton meeting, but will probably race later. Adios Posy, off the front, finished fairly for third, shading Gay Fagan, which showed much speed after missing the start and settling at the rear. Royal Parade was right up fifth, just ahead of Duplex Hanover. Norina (Honkin Andy-Violetta) was too seasoned for Valase (Valerian-Sakeba), her only rival in the two-year-old parade. Norina set the pace and won untested by three lengths after taking 2min 14s for the 1600 m. the last 800 m in Imin I.ls. and the final 400 m in 30.85.

Heather Lord won the sweepstake event for pacers, while Best Dream and Local Hanover were successful in the events for CO Pacers. Best Dream recorded 3min 16s for the 2400 m. while Local Hanover’s time was 3min 16.95.

Spirited Fella, a member of Michael de Filippi's team, gained a stylish win in the qualifying event run over 2600 m, recording 3min 33.3 s when beating Vikki McQuaid, which also qualified. Nine horses qualified over 2400 m. the fastest time being 3min 14.2 s by Skipper Lobell. which won by six lengths in spite of racing greenly for much of the way. Skipper Lobell is trained by Des Grice and is by World Skipper from Ruling Caste. .Others to qualify were Tarport Grattan. Jendi Brown, Michael James, Timely Prince. Barbara Streisand, Dreamy Judge. Westmore Lass and Hooligan. Deestar was the only competitor in the trotters' qualifying event. He broke badly, but trotted splendidly over the last 1600 m in 2min 10.8 s to record 3min 26.3 s for the 2400 m and better the reauired time.
