Mime artist in film
“Clown White.” which will be screened on Two at 8.30 on Saturday night, is the story of an unusual encounter that brings a hearingimpaired nine-year-old to accept his condition. Jason is enrolled in a school for the deaf, but remains sullen and aloof from his peers and teachers. On a school outing he is captivated by a white-faced mime artist posing in a shop window, and he leaves the group to try to find her. While, his . teachers and classmates mount a frantic search for him, Jason is befriended by the mime artist - the only person who can break through into his
soundless world. "Clown White” was produced by the Canadian filmmaker, Martin Harbury, who spent two years and a half researching the script. He spent much time with hear-ing-impaired children, “whose courage, animation, and outstanding sense of fun and humour inspired the film from stqrt to finish.” Saul Rubinek, Patricia Collins and Michael Ironside are featured in leading roles, along with the internationally acclaimed mime artist, Lorene Yarnell.- Jason is played by 10-year-old Mark Christopher Dillon, and six hearing-impaired children also play dramatic roles.
