South African policy
Sir. - I congratulate E. Mulcock on his academic objections to apartheid. My objections label me -Left-wing, which ensures, by definition, that Mr Mulcock must bear adherence' to the’ extreme Right-wing. A cross-section of news media e.g., Albania, Australia, Austria, China, East and West Germany, United Kingdom the and United States appeared unable to appreciate the self-indulgent and isolationist view of the Rugby Union and its followers. How would E. Mulcock explain Muldoon’s reception at Melbourne or the removal of the Foreign Ministers’ Conference from New Zealand? Historically, law and order have been used by both Left and Right to ensure stratified injustice, and the Springbok team reportedly contained nine men, from police and army ranks. These, men would essentially be actively involved in the apartheid process. I think that it will take rather more than E. Mulcock’s earnest wishes to abolish the racist brutal Right-wing regime holding South Africa in its grip. — Yours, etc., ERIN E. van DIJK. September 1, 1982.
