Fertiliser prices increased

PA Wellington The price of phosphate fertilisers has been increased 4 per cent. The new 7 price resulted from the increased cost of imported raw materials, said the Trade and Industry Department. Approval had been given to the rise in accordance with the provisions of the Price Freeze Regulations. A tonne of superphosphate will go up about $3.75 to $5.45, depending on the fertiliser works. Different prices will reflect the varying costs of getting the raw materials into the works, some of which are a considerable distance from ports.

In the case of the East Coast Fertiliser Company, an extra price rise has been authorised under the hardship provisions of the regulations.

The company will charge an extra $6.90 a tonne overall for superphosphate. Of that amount. $4 reflects the increased cost of the raw materials, and $2.90 the increase allowed under the hardship provisions?
