Clyde contract to Hitachi
PA Wellington Contracts worth $25 million for the Clyde power station turbines and generators have been awarded to a Japanese corporation, the Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, announced yesterday. The four turbines and four generators will be made by Hitachi, Ltd, and the -first turbine-generator is expected to go into service in 1987. ’ Each generator would
have an output of 108 MW. Two of them would be able to meet all the demands of the Hutt Valley Energy Board or the Waitemata Electric Power Board, or three would generate sufficient power to supply the Christchurch M.E.D., Mr Birch, said. The contracts were awarded by the Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy. Mr Birch said there was
worldwide interest in the tenders and prices were most competitive. Offers were received from 16 countries including India, Poland, Russia, Czechoslovakia, China, Brazil, Yugoslavia, Austria, and Switzerland.
