Wanted: TV stars
Christchurch will be combed for eight shorthaired. clean-shaven young men to star on Japanese television. Mr Miki Komatsu, the production manager (pictured), says he is looking for about eight New Zealand men to take part in a motor-cycle commercial. One of them is to ride a black horse alongside a motor-cycle with, mountains in the background. If there are some local lads hoping to become stars overnight, they should be warned that the commercial will appear only on Japanese television. New Zealand was chosen because a location exotic to Japanese viewers was needed and a snow scene was wanted because it will be shown during the coming Northern hemisphere winter. “There’s a big promotion in Japan on New Zealand and Australia ... a couple of years ago it was America,” said Mr Komatsu. “So we want to present New Zealand at its best.” A Queenstown man, Russell Carr, has been chosen as location manager for the filming which will take place toward the end of next week. “We get a lot of film crews through Queenstown, but I’ve heard of many who have come and not found what they want,” said Mr Carr, who has fished, skied, hunted and climbed in the area for the last 15 years.
Mr Komatsu will hold auditions at the Clarendon Hotel tomorrow at 5 p.m.
