Unexpected moto-cross entry

The leading Hamilton rider, lan Whinney. will be an unexpected entrant for the second round of the Canterbury moto-cross championship at Omihi on September 17. Whinney, the winner of two heats of the New Zealand 125 cu cm championship before a spill put him out of the running, will be sponsored by Norjo-Kawasaki and Castrol in his late bid for the Canterbury title. And he will ride a new Kawasaki 250 81, which is equipped with a front disc brake instead of the conventional drum.

The present leader of the Canterbury championship is Warren Timpson, of Christchurch, who has been racing a 490 Yamaha under the sponsorship of NorjoYamaha.
