Dockers arrested
NZPA Brisbane Nineteen members of the Painters and Dockers’ Union have been arrested in Brisbane after evidence given to the Costigan inquiry, the Federal police said. The Federal Police chief in Queensland, Chief Superintendent William Antill, said the men were charged with fraudulently receiving more than ?45,000 from the Social Security Department. "The arrests were the direct result of the Costigan Royal Commission,” Superintendent Antill said. The unionists had made false claims for unemployment, sickness, aged, and invalid pensions, he said.
