Scientists in the United States are working on plans to launch a spacecraft into orbit using a Boeing 747 as a primary vehicle. The spacecraft will separate from the aircraft at a predetermined altitude and blast into a low Earth orbit. It will then release its load and return to Earth, landing on an ordinary airport runway. The first mission of this kind is planned for 1988.
