The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Petitions were presented on behalf of M. D. Scott and 425 others seeking the restoration of the Student Community Service Programme, and by the Auckland Regional Authority seeking leave to use extracts from the proceedings of the House. The Minister of Energy. Mr Birch, tabled the 1982 Energy Plan. Reports of the Mount Albert Licensing Trust and the Department of Lands, and Survey were tabled. The Leader of the House informed the House that no further time would be set aside for members to file notices of motion or discuss them as from today. Members filed 11 notices of motion and Ministers answered 18 questions.
Mr M. K. Moore (Lab., Papanui) introduced his New Zealand-Australia Closer Economic Relations (Ratification) Bill. It was set down for second reading. The second-reading debate resumed on the Appropriation Bill. Mr J. F. Luxton (Nat., Matamata) speaking briefly before the 5.30 p.m. dinner adjournment.
The House resumed at 7.30 p.m. when the Budget debate continued. The speakers were Dr M. E. R. Bassett (Lab., Te Atatu); the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Cooper: Mr P. T. E. Woollaston (Lab., Nelsonji the Minister of Education. Mr Wellington; Ms Helen Clark (Lab., Mount Albert): and Mr H. N. Austin (Nat., Bay of Islands).
The House rose at 10.30 p.m.
