Apia rally of 3000
NZPA special correspondent Apia More than 3000 people gathered in a rally in Apia yesterday to find out more about the New Zealand Government’s decision to legislate against the recent Privy Council ruling. Most of them were' 1 public servants on their ■ lunch break, but many from the villages also attended. The Leader of the Opposition. Tupuola Efi. and the president of the Western Samoa Law Society, Aeau Semi Epati, addressed the rally and answered ques-
tions. A petition against the New Zealand decision has been prepared. Rally organisers believe that up to 10,000. signatures would have been collected yesterday. Tupuola Efi said he would present the petition to the New Zealand Government on a visit planned for this week. He said last week that’ he would visit New Zealand provided there was enough local public support. It is believed that the New Zealand legislation would deprive more than 100,000 Samoans living in Samoa of their birthright.
