Canty’s Hatch Cup run continues
Canterbury’s triumphant march in the Hatch Cup national primary schoolboys’ hockey tournament continued at Gonville Domain, Wanganui, yesterday. It beat Counties, 10-0, in the morning game, then had its hardest tussle in the afternoon against Wellington, though winning 8-0. It was half-way through, the first half before Canterbury could score in the secondary game, but it led 30 at half-time. Similarly, it could not score again until 17 minutes in the second half, but three goals in seven minutes took it well clear. Canterbury dominated
Counties throughout the first half, with the captain and centre-half, David Mills, setting up his forwards skilfully as well as striking home the penalty corners. Well-supported by his fel-low-forwards, the centre-for-ward, Paul Mahoney, matched Mills’ four goals in this game, the others being scored by Saxon Connor and Jeremy Paynter. - . Results: Section B: Wanganui 3. Poverty Bay 1; Wellington 2, Nelson 1; Canterbury 10, Counties 0. Section C: Wairarapa 9. West Coast 2; Gore 5, South Canterbury 3; Tauranga 3, Southland 1.
