Canty leads soccer
Cahterbury retained its lead in the national fourteenth grade soccer tournament with two good wins at Manurewa yesterday. In the morning Canterbury comfortably beat Mana by three goals. The afternoon match against North City was exciting. Canterbury trailed by one goal before applying pressure in the second half, scoring an early equaliser. With only 3min left, Geoff Bain, the Canterbury right wing, scored from close range after a fine run. Canterbury, with eight points, leads from Franklin (seven) and Auckland (five). Results: Round 3: Franklin 3, Hawkes Bay 0; Hutt Valley 2, Taranaki 0; North City 2. Auckland 1; Canterbury 3, Mana 0. Round 4: Franklin 4, Taranaki 0; Hutt Valley 2, Hawkes Bay 2; Auckland 3. Mana 1; Canterbury 2, North City 1.
