Australian market buoyed by lack of scrip
A lack of overseas buying after the holiday long weekend in the United Kingdom saw share prices move in a narrow range and a lack of scrip again buoy the Australian market, brokers said. The all-ordinaries index closed 0.8 points up at 482.6 bolstered by a 2.3 point rise in the all-resources index to 379.6. The all-industrials fell 0.9 points to 610.4. CRA fell 7c to 355 c ahead of the releasebof its interim
figures showing a $33.1 million loss with no dividend. Woolworths reaffirmed the decision not to go ahead with the. Grace Bros bid and Woolworths fell sc. to 139 c. Grace Bros closed at 280 c, a fall of 30c. BHP rose 14c to 730 c. and CSR added 5c to 287 c. EZ Industries dropped 15c to 415 c, MIM gained 7c to 325 c, Renison added 5c to 240 c, WMC rose 3c to 348 c and ERA fell 3c to 167 c.
