Masterton to print phone directories
PA Wellington The Government Printing Office will move its biggest regular job, the printing of four million telephone directories, from Wellington to Masterton. The move, expected to cost nearly $3 million, will be to a 4650 sq. m. building adjacent to the Government -Printing Office’s existing works in Masterton. The move will create 55 extra jobs in Masterton for both skilled and unskilled staff and will allow, the taking on of apprentices-in various aspects of the print-
ing industry, said the manager of the Government Printing Office in Masterton, Mr Bill Gillon. Casual employment for an extra 15 to 20 people was also envisaged when big directories were being printed, Mr Gillon said. However, the change will not happen immediately. It is expected to be late in 1984 before the first, directory is produced in what will become an annual print. There is a delay of 18 months between directories at present. ’ , ’ ,
