Afternoon and evening shows at theatrette
A .wide range of free family entertainment is featured in the Industries Fair theatrette daily, where the afternoon and evening shows by the compere, Paul Gregory, always attract large audiences.
The afternoon entertainment includes the Baby Show which, for many years, has attracted large numbers of entries, with their attractive prizes to the winners and special gifts for all participants. The judging for the Baby Show, which is sponsored by Johnson and Johnson, is carried out by the New Brighton Creche. The Baby Show is held at 2 p.m; every day including Sundays, and entries are accepted in the theatrette until 2 p.m.
Both the afternoon and evening shows include a number of quiz contents, such as Question Box, Mel-
ody Mix-Up, where audiences test their musical skills, Lucky Spot competitions, and a family quiz show called Family Prize Line.
Prizes for these shows are donated by members of the Canterbury Manufacturers Association.
These prizes, worth more than $5OOO, are displayed in the display areas outside the theatrette at the Alston Pavilion. ’
With the .Industries Fair being ,a family »show, a special emphasis is placed on children’s entertainment. This year, the free entertainment includes Party Time, with entertainment provided by Neville Barrie—the South Island children’s entertainer. On the days when Neville Barrie’s Party Time show is not running, the fair organisers have arranged for Clotto the Clown, a popular children’s .'. entertainer, to carry on. / At 8.30 p.m., the highlight of the entertainment is the Country Music Spectacular, in which top groups and artists perform in a non-stop variety hour.
