Police plea in rape probe

Christchurch detectives still seek witnesses to an alleged rape on Yaldhurst Road early on Sunday morning.

“Two or ; three witnesses have come forward, but we still seek witnesses,” said the man in charge of the inquiry, Detective Senior-Sergeant, R. G. Carson, yesterday.

A woman, aged 48, told the ■police ’ that’ a young man attacked her from behind near the McKenzie Residential School in Yaldhurst Road, threw her to the ground, and raped her.

The attacker was said to be a European, aged about 25, about 175 cm (sft 9in) tall, of average build, with short hair.

The police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 2.45 a.m and 3.30 a.m.
