World Cup soccer

Sir,—After Watching, the World Cup championship series, one cannot but be impressed by the visionary internationalism of F.I.F.A.’s ad-

ministrators who. have' made soccer the most universal of team sports. They have done this by welcoming all nations to participate with one notable exception, South Africa. F.I.F.A.’s uncompromising rejection of South Africa’s apart-heid-riddled, racist sport should be noted by the International Rugby Board. As long as it allows the shame-faced furtive flirting with South African sport, like the disgraceful tour now being undertaken by a team from Britain, so long will rugby remain the exclusive preserve of white, English-speaking Commonwealth nations and France, equally guilty of offering South Africa comfort and solace in its international rugby “isolation.” — Yours, etc., M. CREEL. July 13, 1982.
