Public discussion wanted

The chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation (Mr lan Cross) has said that he will not comment in detail on the various broadcasting options being considered by the Minister of Broadcasting (Dr Shearer). “Obviously Dr Shearer wants to hear what the public have to say about private

sector involvement in television, and we welcome publication of the options so that there can be public discussion about them,” Mr Cross said. He said the Minister was aware of the Corporation’s views about the ramifications of implementing some of the proposals, “but in

essence we share his interest in public discussion on the matter.” . “Naturally we were encouraged by the Minister’s comment that he will resist any proposal likely to undermine the effect of public broadcasting’s service which has been built up in this country,” Mr Cross said.
