Mr John Leversedge, a teacher at the Chisnallwood Intermediate School in Christchurch, shows the letter sent to him by the leader of the Trans-Globe expedition, Sir Ranulf Fiennes, in reply to a congratulatory card. Sir Ranulf received the card by skiplane while travelling south from the North Pole on ah ice floe. His acknowledgement was written at Nord, in north-east Greenland, on July 1 and reached Christchurch 12 days later. Mr Leversedge is the editor of “Fact” magazine, which has been publishing progress reports on the Trans-Globe expedition since March, 1980.
