District scheme too ‘restrictive’
Parts of the. Paparua County Council’s district scheme could be “unduly restrictive,” the No. 3 Planning Tribunal has said. The comments were made in the tribunal’s decision not to allow Christchurch Ready Mix Concrete, Ltd, to site a depot on its Savills Road, Harewood. property to store lime and fertiliser. The company . had appealed to the tribunal after the council had also turned down the application. The tribunal, comprising Judge Turner (acting chair-' man) .and Messrs G W. En-
sor and R. E. Hermans, said that although the appeal had <to fail because of the provisions in the scheme, the tribunal had gained the impression that they seemed too restrictive. Under the scheme, storage of lime and fertiliser were limited , to industrial zones. .. “It is appropriate for those . products to be stored in country areas,, in locations which are convenient for distribution to farms," said the tribunal. It asked the council to consider its comments.
