Manslaughter verdict
PA Wellington a man was yesterday jailed for four years for deliberately driving a car at a man and killing him.
Marti Teaia, an assembler, aged 21, was sentenced in the High Court at Wellington after being found not guilty by a jury on a charge of murdering David Joseph Pama Underhill at Porirua on March 7. but guilty of manslaughter. Mr Justice Quilliam also disqualified him from driving for six years. The.jury found that he did not intend to kill, and his Honour said he accepted that. Teaia had been drinking but that did not excuse him.
