Antarctic trip
A Christchurch youth, Stephen Walles, is among three young persons chosen to travel to the Antarctic this summer. The Antarctic Division, of the D.S.I.R. ■ invites youth organisations to submit nominations from which a final selection is made. The other two who will visit Antarctica are Peter Carpenter, of Twizel, a Venturer scout, and Catherine Dean, of Blenheim, a ranger. All three are aged 18.
Stephen Walles, who has been a member of the Sea Cadet Corps for five years, is a pupil of Shirley Boys’ High School. The three will travel to Antarctica aboard an icebreaker which will leave New Zealand after Christmas.
