Blenheim’s new Mayor
Blenheim reporter Mr P. A. Taylor, the leading candidate in Saturday’s by-election for the mayoralty of Blenheim, has been confirmed as the town's new Mayor. His polling-day majority of 47 was increased to 106 after the completion of checks of rolls and the counting of 832 special votes late yesterday afternoon.
The final count is:. Mr Taylor, 2440 votes: Mr B. J. Dalliessi, 2334; Mr E. R. McMurtry 1592; informal, 12. Mr Taylor, aged 33, was the youngest of the three candidates. He is a real estate consultant in Blenheim and is serving his first term as a Blenheim Borough Councillor.
