‘New’ State house plan

About 30 vacant houses at Twizel may be moved to Christchurch. The Christchurch manager of the Housing Corporation, Mr G. E. Corry, said yesterday that the corporation had sent officers to Twizel to select houses from among those available. The houses, which were commissioned by the Government to accommodate workers on the Twizel project in the early 19705. had cost between $BOOO and $9OOO each to build.

The houses, which were designed for easy moving, had been built by firms in Oamaru and Christchurch and transported to Twizel, said Mr Corry. They would be moved to vacant land owned by the corporation in Christchurch. Mr Corry said that they would be used to accommodate people on the State housing list. There were more than 100 people in Christchurch with “significant -housing : - needs,” he said.
