People who didn't just sit there

"Don't Just Sit There." which will begin screening on Saturday morning on One. promises many of the same exuberant qualities that made its predecessor. "Don’t Ask Me." popular.

The trio of doctors — David Bellamy. Robert Buckman and Magnus’ Pyke — have all been out and about looking for people who have done something about putting their ideas jnto practice. David Bellamy goes on the natural history trail and finds people like Len Hill, who is so mad keen on penguins that he brought two islands in the Falklands with a penguin population of four million: and also developed a kind of intensive care unit for penguins with asthma problems. Bellamy also meets a bird-lover in Manchester who has turned his entire house over to wild birds — everything from

sparrows to herons. Robert Buckman concentrates on stories of a medical nature; helping people to understand more about themselves. For example: What happens on the operating table when the patient is under the anaesthetic: how do broken bones knit themselves together, and do you know what the contents of your medicine chest were prescribed for. and how long you have had all the various pills and ointments. Magnus Pyke examines various ways and possibilities using ordinary domestic appliances to extraordinary ends — like making pastry in a washing machine, and soap flakes in a mincer. “Don’t Just Sit There!” was produced by David Taylor. Hilary Lawson and Paul Dunston for Anglia Television.
