‘Kingi’s Story’ acclaimed

PA Levin The film, “Kingi’s Story," has been acclaimed and won the international press award at the Prague International TV Festival. Morrow Productions, Levin, in association with Television New Zealand, made “Kingi’s Story,” which was shown on television in New Zealand in May. The producer, Mike Walker, said he had heard from Michael Havas, the ■New Zealand Film Commission representative in Eastern Europe, that "Kingi's Story” was one of the festival successes. Czechoslovak TV had bought the film. East Ger-

many, Hungary and Rumania were negotiating TV rights and the Soviet Union was interested, Mr Walker said. He added that sales to Sweden, the Netherlands. Denmark and West Germany were already assured too and so the success of the film had exceeded all expectation for a one-off drama. “Kingi's Story” is based on the ideas, writings and reallife experiences of a group of New Zealand teen-agers, predominantly Maori, while under the supervision of the Department of Social Welfare. Mr Walker and MorrowProductions are working on a full-length sequel.
