Soviet harvest
For the fourth year running the Soviet Union is expected to end up with a poor wheat and coarse grain harvest, well below its fiveyear plan targets, according to the International Wheat Council. The Soviets were expected to harvest 90 million tonnes of wheat this year, slightly up from 88 million tonnes last year and down from 98 million tonnes in 1980. The five-year plan target is around 115 million to' 120 million tonnes a year. The Soviet Union’s biggest wheat crop was 120.8 million tonnes in 1978. the council said. — London.
