Migrant deals secure?
PA Wellington Immigration agreements between Australia and New Zealand would be hard for any government to break overnight once C.E.R. was signed, the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Templeton) told a seminar in Wellington. He was commenting on a remark made by an Australian Labour member of Parliament. Mr Michael Young, that his party would consider reducing the number of New Zealanders emigrating to Australia. The Government had been at pains to ensure that the Opposition parties in both countries were fully briefed on all aspects of C.E.R.. said Mr Templeton. “I cannot guarantee that in the future any government may wish to change the agreement, but I would hope development of the agreement will make that unnecessary," he said. "I hope the age-old freedom of movement between our two countries will continue.”
