toral petition was “difficult to understand,” said the Labour Party’a president, Mr J. P. Anderton. “The Labour Party took its petition on’the Taupo result to .the Electoral Court in good faith, believing there was a sound' case for the decision being made in favour of a Labour win,” he said. Nothing that happened during the hearing convinced me that that was not in fact the situation." Mr Anderton said it was difficult to understand the award of costs, particularly given the difference of only one seat between the two main parties in Parliament. Speaking from Canberra, where he was to address the Australian Labour Party’s conference yesterday afternoon, Mr Anderton said he wanted to read the judgment and discuss it- with legal advisers before commenting further.
