90 killed
NZPA Moscow A Soviet airliner bound for West Africa crashed seconds after take-off from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport on Tuesday, killing all aboard. Airport sources said that about 90 people had been in the Aeroflot Ilyushin-62 airliner, bound for Senegal and Sierra Leone, when it ploughed into a field only 10km. from the runway. A brief official announce-
ment by the Aviation Ministry gave no details of the crash, which occurred soon after midnight (Moscow time) and said only that the Ministry had conveyed condolences to the relatives of the victims. West African diplomats said that at least 16 Sierra Leone citizens had been in the plane, and some Senegalese students? Most of the passengers were believed to be Soviet citizens.
