Obituary Mr J. M. Hargreaves
Mr John Moore Hargreaves, a Christchurch accountant who was prominent in the wool trade, and who helped develop the Interflora business in New Zealand. died in Christchurch recentlv.
Mr Hargreaves was born in 1908 and educated at Christchurch Boys' . High School and Canterbury University College, where he graduated with a bachelor of commerce degree in 1932. Mr Hargreaves began practising as- a public accountant in 1945. and was later joined by the late Mr Alan Felton to form Hargreaves arid Felton.
He was secretary of the Woolbuyers' Association from 1947 Lo 1980 and secretary of the Woolscourers'
Association, from 1947 to 1979.
As secretary-manager of Interflora Pacific Unit.. Ltd. from 1953 to 1974. he oversaw the development of Interflora (flowers by wire) and expanded the business to Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
He was a member of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce for many years, serving as president in 197172. He was president of the Christchurch Businessmen's Club in 1964-65. and secretary of the CanterburyRugby Union and CanterburyLawn Tennis Association.
Mr Hargreaves was an active member of the Russley Golf Club, and was its president in 1963.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
