Romney awards for fathers and sons
PA Masterton Two father-and-son partnerships, from Kaikohe and Mossburn, have been awarded the Romney “Com- ! mercial Farmer of the Year s award." fi R. H. Felton and Sons, of > Mossburn. Southland, were i nominated from the South Island, while Ross and Richard Tylden. of Kaikohe. Northland, were nominated from the North Island. They were selected from six regional finalists from I each island. The four judges, the president of the Romney Breeders' Association. Mr Allan Humphries, a stock company representative, Mr Ross Hampton, a M.A.F. ad-
visory officer. Mr Bruce Binney. and a commercial farmer. Mr Ron Stewart, travelled throughout New Zealand to judge the finalists. looking for per head performance under top management conditions. The award was worth $5OO to each winner.
The Felton partnership ■uns a 368 ha sheep and cropping farm with 3300 breeding ewes. 1600 ewe hoggets, 100 rams, and drys.
The Tylden partnership runs a 476 ha sheep and beef farm with 1750 two-tooth to four-year-old ewes. 900 ewe lambs, 675 wether lambs. 45 rams, 30 wethers and killers, and a large quantity of cattle.
