Tubby now weighs a stone less

Now recovering from an operation to remove an unusually large stone from his bladder, Tubby, a 14 year old owned by the Christchurch group of the Riding for the Disabled Association, is restless to get back to work. Pictured with Tubby is one of his riders, Michael Yeatman, aged 17, holding the stone, which weighed almost a kilogram when removed. Two veterinarians, Messrs J. Shaw and A. Mitchell, removed the stone without charge. Stones the size of an orange are considered unusual and one the size found in Tubby, which had been forming for several years, is regarded as rare. Tubby is one of eight ponies owned by the group. After his-stitches are taken out today he will recuperate on a Halswell farm.

The president of the Christchurch group of the association, Mrs Greta Harrison, said that he would be ready for the riding season opening in September.
