Bomb detonated The British Army yesterday performed a controlled explosion of one of the biggest bombs found in Northern Ireland. The bomb, containing 227 to 272 kg (up to 6001 b) of explosives, was found in a van in Belfast. A Royal Ulster Constabulary chief superintendant, Jim Crutchley. said: "If it had gone off in the city centre I estimate a lot of people would have been killed.” It caused wide-spread damage when detonated. — Belfast. Car bomb kills 3 Three people were killed and 20 injured when a car bomb exploded outside a building housing the French news agency, Agence France-Presse. Ambulances and fire engines rushed to the site of the explosion, which was near the Ministry of Information, Beirut Radio, and the Prime Minister’s office. The car bomb was the latest of several that have exploded since Israeli invasion forces completed their encirclement of Palestinian guerrillas in west Beirut. — Beirut. Wind toll At least 30 people have died as 150km/h winds ripped through the state of Parana in southern Brazil. Captain Leo Castanha, of the Curitiba Fire Department said that the storm had hit the interior of the state, and the death toll could rise. — Curitiba.
