Japanese crew on location in Christchurch

The United States Antarctic clothing warehouse resounded to Japanese chatter this week when a television film crew from Japan visited the base. The crew of six from Fuji Television are being accompanied on a tour of New Zealand by an Auckland charter toiir director, Mr Masayoshi Sekikawa, of Film Safaris, Ltd, who acts as interpreter for the group. The crew is collecting material for the weekly television programme, "Naruhodo! The World.” Naruhodo means “I see" or "I understand." A different, country is highlighted each week in the hour-long programme to a

prime-time audience •of about 25 million. The crew has visited the Mount Cook and Tekapo areas already and has included film of the American actress, Bo Derek, amid the natural splendour of Mount Cook. After filming round Christchurch on Tuesday, the team visited the United States Antarctic Naval Support Force base at Christchurch Airport. There they filmed the officer in charge of the force, Commander Wayne Jones, before visiting the clothing warehouse. The next stop for the film crew is Auckland. Their New Zealand.episode is scheduled for screening in Japan on the last Tuesday in July.
